Description
This is our third release of the ‘Home Block’ Chardonnay, following the initial single barrel in 2020 and the 2021 release. Grown on our Porongurup vineyard, this wine comes from the prized Clone 95 Chardonnay, grafted onto mature 20+ year old Shiraz rootstock—well established and perfectly suited to our cool climate site. Barrel fermented in French oak, it spent 8 months on lees, building texture and complexity while retaining purity of fruit and a fine acid line.
COLOUR
Pale straw with a subtle green hue.
AROMA
Lifted and complex, showing delicate white peach and nectarine, hints of grilled nuts and brioche, and a subtle savoury edge reminiscent of fresh pastry or a creamy Portuguese tart.
PALATE
Elegant and finely structured, the 2022 vintage shows a beautiful balance between subtle fruit and restrained oak. Flavours of white peach, cashew and a hint of citrus peel are supported by fine acidity and a gently savoury edge. It’s not overtly fruity or creamy but has a refined palate weight and texture from time on lees, leading to a long, focused finish. The modest alcohol (11.5%) contributes to its poise and potential to age gracefully.
CELLARING
Delicious now especially with something like pan-fried chicken with miso or sesame.
Production limited to 75 dozen/150 x 6 packs.
Bottled: December 2022
