Description
This is just our second ‘Home Block’ Chardonnay (after the single barrel produced in 2020). The fruit is the highly regarded Clone 95 Chardonnay which we grafted onto 20+ year old Shiraz vines (the well established rootstock ensuring a successful take). All barrel fermented in French oak, it spent 8 months on lees for texture and complexity while retaining its fine, cool climate fruit characters.
COLOUR
A bright, straw gold in colour.
AROMA
Complex aromas of cashew nut & lightly toasted sesame with peachy/stone fruit characters and even a whiff of Portugese tart…
PALATE
Our 2021 Home Block Chardonnay is both fine and complex. It has a beautifully silky palate that’s well weighted with great persistence. Not overtly fruity, it has quite delicate fruit flavours while still having palate weight and texture. The lightly drying acidity gives good length to the palate and its relatively low alcohol (12.5%) should ensure will it age well; developing some bottle age complexity without losing its inherent fineness. A great variety that’s very well suited to our cool Porongurup vineyard site.
CELLARING
Very drinkable now (try with an Asian style chicken dish), we’re very confident our Home Block will continue to improve with more bottle age, eg 3 – 6 years?
Production limited to 125 dozen/250 x 6 packs. Bottled: December 2021
