Description
This is a variety very well suited to the Great Southern and especially the Porongurups, with its cooler ripening conditions and especially its cooler overnight temperatures. Typically, the Riesling wines made from this region are delicate, crisp, and dry and can age well.
The season was a mixed bag with some hot weather then cold weather & everything in between! Fortunately, the Riesling vines proved very resilient and we harvested in early March at perfect ripeness. Picking overnight with cool temperatures and processing promptly at the winery avoids any oxidation or spoilage of flavour. Only free run juice is used (yield of less than 500L/tonne) and fermented at 12 – 14 C with a neutral yeast to maximize the delicacy inherent in this variety.
COLOUR:
Bright and clear, the palest white gold.
AROMA:
Quite pungent; has aromas of homemade lime concentrate, a touch of barely ripe fresh passionfruit and some delicate orange blossom characters.
PALATE:
Initial impression is ‘wow’ with its zingy fine acidity and delicious lemony flavours…it’s clean, fresh and pretty; classically Porongurup!
Our 2022 is beautifully balanced wine with a delicious, mouth filling acidity and great palate weight. It is fine and delicate, a characteristic of cool climate Riesling and, with its crisp natural acidity, has great length on the palate.
Our Riesling is delicious now as a fresh and lively aperitif or serve along with fresh seafood.
Its fine acidity should ensure this wine will also age well for several years.
